North Texas Animal Shelters

If you are dropping off an animal, always check first with a shelter to insure that it is currently "No-Kill". Some of these shelters DO practice euthanasia for ill, elderly or defensive pets.  The illness may be something as mild as worms in a kitten or puppy.  Some of the nicest facilities put healthy animals to sleep if not adopted in 5 days.

ALPHABETICAL LIST OF ANIMAL SHELTERS IN NORTH TEXAS

DO NOT CALL REGARDING LOST ANIMALS UNLESS YOU HAVE A PURE BRED ANIMAL. ANIMALS OF MIXED DESCENT CAN NOT BE IDENTIFIED OVER THE PHONE AND ANIMAL SHELTERS WILL NOT ACCEPT SUCH CALLS. Most shelters use volunteers who are not familiar with all breeds. You must visit the shelter every three days until your pet is found or else you risk it being put to sleep. You may take photos reproduced on a copier to each animal shelter to place in their journal of lost animals or bulletin board. This will greatly increase your chances. In person, shelter volunteers will give you names and phone numbers of people who have found pets similar to yours.

If you have lost a purebred animal, please contact all area rescue groups for that breed and email a photo. Find such groups by doing a web search for current phone numbers or call your local animal shelter for the group in charge of your area.
